Hieroglyphic Art Work

I will personalize handmade Egyptian hieroglyphics either just someone's name or a special message. These made to order art works will take at least 1 and half weeks to make. Mediums that are used are

  • pastels,
  • watercolors,
  • and black ink.
If ordering the watercolor version, watercolor paper will be used. If ordering the pastel version, at least 60 lb. paper weight will be used. I will custom make for any size. Normal sizes are (9" x 12") and (11" x 14").

The (9" x 12") either watercolor or pastel version, size starts at $74 which includes a hieroglyphic border and up to 25 characters ; each additional character is 75 cents extra ; or an additional 8 characters for $5 more ; or an additional 16 characters for $9 more ; or an additional 24 characters for $13 more ; or an additional 32 characters for $16 more. However, if you would like a hieroglyphic art piece with up to 25 characters, without the hieroglyphic border, the cost would be $48. The additional characters for the art piece without the hieroglyphic border are priced the same as stated above.

I acquired my knowledge of hieroglyphics from many sources. Throughout college, I studied them on my own along with my various art history courses that I had taken to obtain my B.A. in Fine Arts. I have always found them fascinating and intriguing. I am by far not an expert in the field of Egyptian hieroglyphics. However, I have studied them somewhat and have some basic knowledge of them. Many sources contradict one another for what they actually mean. For instance, some studies say that the Egyptians didn't have "E" or "C" in their language. While other studies say they did have "E" and "C"in their language. Some studies believe that one hieroglyphic can stand for one than more characters, such as "A and O", "B and V", "C and K", "E and I" and "U and W". Some studies showed that a hieroglyphic can even stand for a sound or even a word. One study can show a hieroglyphic which stands for a specific character but then other studies can show a totally different hieroglyphic for the same character. There are just too many differences to try to cover. However, I believe even though these Egyptian hieroglyphics may not be "truly" the original translation to English - since there has been many discussions and arguments about their exact translation - they still will make a unique artwork to add to anyone's art collection. Someone who is interested in Egyptian culture or history, this would be an ideal gift. In my pieces, I am not basing my knowledge on one specific theory or belief. My hieroglyphics are comprised from many studies and I have chosen the hieroglyphics that I found most decorative and interesting. All of my creations will be based on the two examples displayed below. I will use the same colors to try to reproduce an authentic looking hieroglyphic message on papyrus paper. However, in the two examples shown, in my opinion, these are the best colors of pastels and watercolors and the best decorative border to use to try to reproduce an authentic looking Egyptian hieroglyphic message on papyrus paper. Like I stated before, I custom create these art pieces as they are ordered. Therefore, you as the customer are the one who decides on the final design, color, size, and border. Just to emphasize once more, all are created by me, Elizabeth Arlene Smith, the artist. Each are drawn or painted on fine quality paper and each hieroglyphic is hand drawn with black ink. Please inquire with any questions that you may have. It would be best if you just sent me the exact message you would want me to translate first. That way I can give you a couple of options to choose from. We could decide on whether to use separate hieroglyphics for each character or use hieroglyphics that stand for two characters.
